FLORY JAY (JAMES) Born on June 24, 1953, and died on Saturday, October 21, 2017. No Visitation or Service. Arrangements entrusted to the LEO J. HENNEY FUNERAL HOME, Carnegie. leohenneyfuneralhome.com
Jay and I were elementary school classmates at Spitler school. I remember that he was very good at making sketches. I see from ancestry.com that he died on 21 October 2017 in Pennsylvania.
It was in the late '90s when I read that Jay was having a solo exhibit at a gallery on the South Side. We had both gone to Edinboro U. majoring in art. Every so often we'd run into each other on campus, so I knew how talented and accomplished he was.
I was excited to catch up after 20 years, and that's when I found out that he had been battling leukemia. He was the same generous and gentle soul I knew in HS art class.
Mark Pansa, a mutual friend, gallery owner, and supporter of Jay posted this tribute on Facebook. "We lost a great man Saturday. The talented artist and kindest gentlemen you'll meet and my good friend and mentor Jay Flory. I only wish I spent more time with him. You'll be loved and missed forever Jay."
